Allandale Farm is the bee's knees. Boston's last working farm is probably one of my very favorite places in the city; the selection is vast, the staff informative, and the products are absolutely top notch. There's not a single, negative thing to be said.

LUCY PARSONS CENTER

The Lucy Parsons Center is a fantastic, collectively run bookstore in the South End...the kind Boston could certainly use a lot more of. Not only do they have a well-rounded selection of radical literature, but they also carry used books at very reasonable prices. I was lucky enough to score a a sweet, vintage copy of "Their Eyes Were Watching God" for a buck, so be sure to check out their fiction section. They also have a nice little zine library, an outdated but still stellar stash of magazines you'd be hard-pressed to find elsewhere, awesome prints, and a seriously comfortable couch.

Veggie Planet Pizza

I've always felt like Veggie Planet was a mixed bag due to the unfortunate combination of delicious food and an often cranky waitstaff, but my last two trips have turned me into a believer. Perhaps it has just been the luck of the draw, but I really do feel like the service has improved significantly. My last two dining experiences were outstanding, actually; low key, but totally friendly and speedy. I suggest you hit up Veggie Planet for lunch instead of dinner, though, as it's less busy, and overall, much more pleasant.

Canto 6 is bringing sexy back. The shop is sweet and petite, with an incredibly ascetically appealing display case of baked goods. It smells amazing in there!

Chipotle Mexican Grill

I know it's totally uncool to admit you are in love with a chain restaurant, but having been the kind of person who was chosen last for the whatever-team in high school, I've never been too concerned with being cool. I've always been more interested in telling it like it is. This is precisely is why I can freely admit the following, straight-faced and without hesitation: I am obsessed with Chipotle (though I think calling it "Chipotle Mexican Grill" is taking it a little too far). Hey, at least they're not owned by McDonald's anymore, right?

The best thing at Harvest Co-op is the extensive selection of rice, beans, grains, oats, nuts, spices, and just about everything else (amazing banana chips and cherry vanilla granola, for instance) available by the pound. It's a great place to get bulk items and vegan-friendly goods you'd be hard pressed to find at a larger, chain supermarket, and for this I am thankful.

PHO PASTEUR

I have eaten at Pho Pasteur several times recently, and have consistently been very satisfied with my meals. What really stands out, though, is the Tofu-Vegetable Curry pho ($6.25). I have addictions to both soup and curry, and thus was thrilled when a ridiculously gigantic bowl of fresh vegetables and large chunks of tofu, swimming in a delightful yellow curry broth, was placed in front of me. Add some of that garlic-chili paste they have on the table, and you've got a really fantastic, spicy, somehow nourishing meal.
