I discovered the beauty of WFM 2.5 years ago, living in Woburn, MA. A brand new WFM opened up and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Now, as I live in Somerville and as long as I can still afford it, I choose to shop for most of my groceries at WFM in Cambridge. This WFM has it all, an abundant produce section, tasty prepared foods department, beautiful floral section and all the things you'd expect to find in between. Because they are located on the 2nd floor of the building, they'll even send your bags down to your car if you can't carry them yourself.

Ricky's flower market in Union Square is the perfect place for the urban gardner who wants to keep things "green" in the city. When I first drove by I thought it was just the lot under the old gas station (how cool is that?!), then when I stopped in for the first time, I saw that there was a huge outdoor space in the back and an indoor space as well. We got our Christmas tree and a wreath in the winter, which we had to recycle (just because it was getting ridiculous keeping them up so long) right before Easter.

The Sherman Cafe in Union Square is one of our favorite local places. It has that real urban cafe feeling, without being stuffy or pretentious. The food is delicious and everything is either made from scratch in-house or from a local proprietor. The ingredients used in the salads, sandwiches, breakfast fare and desserts are all natural and baked goods are made fresh daily. Free wi-fi is offered and because of this and the great food, seating is always limited. People tend to find a spot, order food and stay for several hours.

This place is a hidden gem in Cambridge. Forget about the malls when you need to grab a gift for someone or want something funky for your own place. It's an eclectic mix of antiques, kitchen and bathroom accessories, local artisan goods and random things for the home and the fashion conscious individual. They tout the locals by offering tee-shirts, jewelry, cards and many other items made by local artists. They tout reusing and recycling by bringing back vintage and kitschy items that someone else may have thrown away. Grandma's old purse or shoes may look fabulous with a new set of pearls!

I love love love this place. It reminds me of an old country store in Vermont. The people behind the counters are really friendly and fun. They seem to all love working there. The sandwiches are all made with locally made bread and unique flavor combinations. If I've got the time, I like to order a sandwich on the deli side and a coffee from the coffee shop side and hang on the couches. Time passes quicky this way. Seats fill up fast on Sunday mornings/afternoons so be sure to get there early. Somehow a cookie always makes it onto my plate too, but who am I to complain.

As the other reviewers commented, this place has a great menu and lots of brews on tap, but lacks the eco-friendly practices other restaurants favor. A few cool things about this place not mentioned in previous posts. 1) Every waitstaff member will probably wait on you over the course of your experience there. You won't have one waiter the entire night, someone may take your drink order, another will take your dinner order and another will deliver your food. This makes the atmosphere more casual and easygoing. 2) They have a mug club.

I recently visited Herrell's in Harvard Sq after hearing a few friends talk about it. I'm a big fan of local home-made ice cream places like JP Licks and Christina's and wanted to try this out. While I loved the cool atmosphere, nice staff and appreciate their green efforts, my boyfriend and I left thinking we could take it or leave it (the ice cream, that is). What I got on my flat bottom cone was a goopy mess. We were so excited to try a new frozen confection and left disappointed. If I had known the ice cream was going to be like that, I probably would've chosen a different flavor.
