We thought IzzitGreen might cure our unhealthy obsession with pop-culture, but it’s only made it worse. We’re scouring the red carpet to the dugout to see who’s wearing carbon stilettos or furry green sneakers. It’s leafy. It’s green. It’s pop-culture the Izzit way.

Golf Courses of the Rich and Famous -- Greening the Green

Can a sport of elitism and excess go green in the hands of celebrities?

For centuries golf has been a game of the elite, from Mary Queen of Scots putting days after her husband’s murder to CEOs dropping six-figure membership fees at private courses. What would you expect from a sport whose governing body is “Royal and Ancient”?

Collectively using land “covering an area bigger than Belgium”, golf also bears the responsibility of environmental stewardship—whether the sport’s enthusiasts claim that responsibility or not.

Meat-y Matthew McConaughey

Say McConaughey in the Land of Lean Beef!

Stewie Griffin and I agree on many things, including that there are few things in this world that are less enjoyable than watching Matthew McConaughey act – but there are also few things in this world that are funnier than listening to him talk. Matt’s a bit like listening to President Bush give a speech with his toothbrush still in his mouth.

Major League Baseball's All-Star Carbon Footprint

We know their batting averages...what about their airplane miles?

The Red Sox - I'm sorry...the American League All-Stars - are playing against the National League tonight in Major League Baseball's 2008 All-Star game. It's certain to be a historic event, as the storied Yankee Stadium - home to New York City's most prized institution, the New York Yankees- will play host to the game. This isn't just any season at Yankee Stadium, however...it's the stadium's last.

What's missing from Wall•E?

How the movie could have put some bite behind its bark

Wall•E: While it would have been a tall order for you to be my favorite film of all time, you could easily have been by top for the summer. Your exquisitely rendered animations left me breathless, your vision for the future was shocking, and your humor was effective. You made me feel emotionally connected to a couple of robots... in fact, you and your plastic pal Eva were more likeable than the film's humans, especially the live-action ones. You were entertaining, and you were also an excellent children's movie.

WALL-E: Green messages galore

A movie with a message...but will it stick?

I went to see WALL-E, Pixar’s latest animated film, this past weekend. In addition to being an instant box office hit, WALL-E also has that special something that inspires people to think and discuss the issues raised within the film, as well as society as a whole. Columnists have even used WALL-E to leap frog into discussions of politics, economics, and environmental policy.
