Is a "no corn" diet as unsustainable as the industrial corn complex?

It's day two of my corn-free diet and I'd like to introduce you to what will, for the next 13 days, be a daily activity for me. This is to rank, on a scale of 1-10, how angry I am about this ridiculously strict food regiment I have found myself on (you'd be amazed at how little food you can eat if you have a corn allergy.) I like to call it the Lewis Black Scale of Rage.

Disappearing ice at the North Pole

As a mom to two boys, I pride myself on raising curious and thoughtful kids who have an interest in the world around them. So the other day, when as I was logging on to my email I noticed a dramatic headline stating that the North Pole was going to melt this summer and I uttered a big, “Oh, wow…” aloud, I was asked by my 6-year-old, “What, mom? What are you looking at?” At that point, I threw all hope of reading through my emails uninterrupted out-the-window.

Sometimes our kids know better than we do

I consider myself a pretty good recycler. I haven’t always been. Those cat food cans smelled so god-awful, I couldn’t bring myself to wash them out. And when something recyclable ended up in the trash can accidentally, I figured it was just “meant to be”. But over time, I have vastly improved. I now clean out those disgusting cat food cans, and don’t even cringe (much) when I have to dig down into the garbage to pull out the errant yogurt cup.
