I Think I'm Allergic to Global Warming...

Global warming is nothing to sniff at. Or is it? As reported by Time Magazine today, a new study by the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology has linked global warming to the global growth in Asthma and respiratory allergies.

Good Musk Ox! Bad Musk Ox?

Grazing musk oxen and caribou in the arctic are good for the environment. Unless they’re bad for it…

So we all know that the variables shaping the global warming debate are complex, nuanced and sometimes confusing. Right? We take this as matter-of-course, and accept that debate and confusion are part of the discovery process. Correct?

But shouldn’t we be able to discern whether grass chewing Musk Oxen in the arctic are either good or bad for global warming? Does everything have to be confusing? Apparently, yes.

Word of the Day: Nurdle

What’s a Nurdle? Nurdles are pre-production plastic pellets made from HDPE (High Density Polyethylene).

Simply put, nurdles are the (semi) raw material of the plastic economy. Manufacturers use the to create the many, many, many plastic products we use in this world of ours. So before a water bottle becomes a water bottle, or a squirt gun forms a squirt gun, it’s a simple pile of nurdles. In their simplest form, nurdles look a lot like the little plastic beads that fall out of old teddy bears…and that’s probably because they are.

Mount St. Helens: no longer erupting, still lighting fires

I think I can legitimately say that volcanoes were my first love. Before I became fascinated by volcanoes on the surface of other planets, there was one particular terrestrial volcano for which a magma-y fire burned in my heart: Mount St. Helens.
